The Treasure: Melmerby Beach
Nova Scotia is rich in beaches. Stone or sand, lake, river or ocean – we have a lot of them.
Along the Northumberland Shore, north east of New Glasgow, sits the beautiful Melmerby Beach.
A sand dune separating the parking area from the beach provides a memorable introduction to the beach. Acting as a sound barrier the waves crashing in go from a dull thud in the parking lot to a robust and powerful symphony of sound as you cross the dune on a boardwalk.
On the hot June day we went the two kilometer beach was relatively empty but we suspect this will change as the summer progresses. 😉
A look in both directions:
The beach is pretty much all sand with the few rocks there are being well rounded. This is among the denser concentrations of stones we could find on the main beach:
Melmerby Beach is also non-swimmer friendly in that it goes gently in to the water allowing people (and dogs on leash) to enjoy and enter the water at a level comfortable to them.
There’s also, naturally, a collection of shells to discover. Among them what seems to be a more rare find – a sand dollar. Not sure the visit to the beach went so well for the lobster, however. 😉
Melmerby Beach is well worth the trip for anyone that likes to sit ocean side and listen to the waves or walk along the water’s edge dodging the incoming waves, for shell collectors and rock collectors. Surfers will enjoy the waves and suntanner will enjoy the…. Oh Treasure Bear…
Anyway! Put Melmerby Beach on your must visit list and go get a little sand on your feet. 🙂
