Five Islands Provincial Park

The Place: Five Islands Provincial Park

The Treasure: Walking on the ocean floor, and more!

Our intended destination for the day was for another wilderness area but it didn’t pan out – but that’s okay, these things happen for a reason, right?

Five Islands Provincial Park is an 87 camp site park that sits along the north side of the Bay of Fundy.

The park has three main trails. Economy Loop at 3.4 kms, Estuary at 3.1 kms and Red Head 2.2 kms one way (4.4 total). Each estimated to take between 2 and 3 hours to hike.

We ended up hiking through part of Red Head trail before turning back. We’d gotten there late since it wasn’t our original destination for the day and didn’t want to miss our chance at… well, you’ll see. 😉

Long walk, need rest.

There’s quite a few look offs in the park, offering a great view of the ocean below.. when it’s there. 🙂

Perhaps the main attraction of the park and something everyone should experience is seeing it at low tide and getting a chance to walk along the ocean floor.

If you want to experience walking on the ocean floor you’ll have to time your trip with low tide or plan to spend most of the day there to catch it. Please be careful! Parts of the area will be under 40-50 feet of water at high tide and it comes in faster than you’d think.

Be sure to put Five Islands Provincial Park on your must visit list – because it’s just neat to say you walked on the ocean floor. 🙂
